Star United Pairs with Illinois Brass Band in Performance

Waukegan, Illinois, June 14, 2009 -- Star United kick started it's 2009 season with a successful performance with the Illinois Brass Band in Waukegan on the afternoon of June 14th.

The concert was the culmination of a mini tour for the mini corps that began on June 13th featuring performances in two states that included a visit with the Kilties and the performance with the Illinois Brass Band. Click here for photos from the tour.

Star United members departed Indianapolis early Saturday morning, assembling at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois. After a dress rehearsal with the Illinois Brass Band, the corps traveled North to Racine, Wisconsin to perform a run through for the Kilties at the conclusion of their rehearsal.

Sunday offered Star United another opportunity to rehearse and prepare. The corps also had a unique opportunity to receive instruction from Stephen Squires, conductor of the Illinois Brass Band and Professor of Conducting in the Music Conservatory at Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University.

The joint performance in the afternoon at Waukegan High School included a full performance of Star United's competition program for 2009, as well as a performance of Jari Villanueva's arrangement of Goin' Home, and a combined performance with the Illinois Brass Band of Respighi's Appian Way.
